Winter weddings are a favourite of mine - I got married in winter myself, and the very first wedding I ever photographed was in the depths of December too. They bring challenges that you only get that time of year – I’ve had fog so dense that visibility is reduced to a metre, heavy snow that has brought the country to a standstill, ceremonies that start long after dark in remote rural churches with no street lights for miles…but all these challenges are manageable with preparation and when they happen, do nothing but add to the magic of what is a special day whatever time of year the wedding takes place.
It goes without saying therefore that I was over the moon to be chosen as photographer for the winter wedding of Alex and Lisa. They were getting married at Alexander House in Sussex, which is one of my favourite venues too, and despite the heavy snow of recent weeks they had a clear, dry day that sharpened and enhanced the Christmas atmosphere and excitement that filled the hotel.
Lisa and Alex are a truly great couple, and with their two boys are a family that exude so much happiness and love it’s almost tangible, and which is reflected back at them many, many times over by their friends and family. The wedding day was as emotional, happy and fun for all as you’d expect, with the children well looked after too with presents around the Christmas tree and a Buzz Lightyear themed party!
It was an honour to record the day for them and I really am delighted to have been able to do so, and I’m also pleased to say that they are very happy with the photographs – I’ve got a new website coming soon which will have the full, very kind testimonial Lisa has written me, but here’s a snippet!: “I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the photos. They are amazing and just so beautiful, you really have done such a great job of capturing such a wonderful day. Tears started and did not stop until the end, I am so pleased and you have made my Christmas. The photos of my boys are just gorgeous…I would not have any hesitation in recommending you to anyone…”
